I'm kind of breaking away from the normal use of this blog and decided to set up a recipe blog so anyone can see what exactly this crazy family eats every day. We are very consistent and dedicated to good health. We have a unique way of eating that has brought us health and happiness.

Breakfast: Granola , granola, granola...we are almost out of it and I actually am getting tired and had a bowl of raisin bran this morning. I think I'll try cooking oatmeal next week if I can get organized. The kids wake up right when I'm done running and want to eat right away.

Lunch: Mashed Potatoes

I boil red potatoes whole. I leave the skins on partly because I'm lazy and partly because I like them. I leave a bit of potato water in them for mashing and add olive oil and salt to taste. Sometimes I get fancy and sprinkle some parsley on top. The kids eat it with organic ketchup and Sasha sprinkles flaxseed crackers on top.

sides: green salad

I put a spoonful of veganaise and a dash of garlic powder on the salad and my kids gobble the salad up. Don't tell them about the garlic.

Dinner: Turkey Sandwiches

sides: grapes, rice chips, cookies (from good earth they were on a sale for an amazing price....I should go back and get a case!)

We are going to eat it picnic style at the Stake Bar B-Q.They don't usually serve super healthy food at these functions and we try to just bring our own "cool" stuff so the kids don't feel bad. I like hamburgers but am happy not to eat them most of the time.

Regarding flaxseed crackers: I don't know how labor intensive they are, but most likely too much for me :). I used to eat a lot of flax seeds after my GI surgery, because they are excellent for digestion and regulating the bowel, not to mention nutrional value. What I did, though, is simply grind the seeds in a coffee grinder and add tablespoons to oatmeal, salads, etc. You can do the same with mashed potatoes - in case you run out of crackers or don't feel like making them.

Leaving the skins on is THE only way to make mashed potatoes right! That's how we go at our house. Hayley even used to say when she was little that "potato" was her favorite food. Actually, she still says that... :)

It sure makes it a lot easier..glad to hear someone vote for it. Sasha's mom hated it that I left the peels on....Sasha,however, has gotten used to it.

Maria: The crackers were a bit of work but not too bad. I'll make them when Sasha begs me but he's not very demanding about food since he realizes that I'm pretty tuckered out from child care most of the time. :)

I make up my own "oatmeal packets" on Sunday for the whole week. I add brown sugar, cinnamon, protein powder and flaxseed to mine. So I just measure 1 serving out put it in baggies, twist tie. Then in the morning it only takes 2 1/2 mins in the microwave. Just a suggestion.

That's probably one reason why we should get a microwave again. I got rid of it when I was in a more ultra health phase but I sure miss it sometimes.

What great ideas about flaxseed! I've always known they were super healthy, but I've never tried to actually eat them because I could figure out a way to do it.

Can you grind flaxseed in a normal wheat grinder? Grinding would make it easy to slip into just about anything

You can put flaxseed in just about anything..it's true..granola, muffins, etc...I bought a little coffee grinder from Walmart for about $12 and that's how I've ground flaxseeds in the past. The crackers I made have whole flaxseeds in them. They are good for digestion but I don't give them to my little boys.
